Danieli Group - Story
Danieli Group is a well-established global manufacturer of industrial machinery with a century-long history in the metals industry. It was founded by brothers Mario and Timo Danieli in 1914 with the acquisition of the Angelini Steelworks in Brescia, Italy, one of the first plants to adopt the electric arc furnace for steel production. In 1929, Mario Danieli moved the steelworks to Buttrio, where the company still has its headquarters today. As the company evolved, Danieli Group specialized in the production of machines for the steel-making industry, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of the Italian steel industry in Europe.
Following a crisis that affected the entire sector in the second half of the 1970s, the company shifted its focus from producing machines to designing and building steel plants. The first result was a 500,000-ton steel plant in Brandenburg, in the former East Germany. Over time, the company has become recognized globally for its reliability and expertise in the steel industry and has achieved various milestones and major technological breakthroughs through its continued investment in research and development. In 1986, Danieli Group acquired Morgårdshammar, a Swedish group specializing on rolling plants for special steels. In 1991, it acquired Rotelec, a French engineering company in the steel sector. In the past, the Group was headed by Chairman Gianpietro Benedetti and is now headed by CEO Giacomo Mareschi Danieli. It has a global presence in 28 countries and operates seven production centers and 25 business units.
Danieli Group is renowned for its expertise in designing, manufacturing, and starting up plants for the production of steel, ferrous and non-ferrous metals. It supports the entire production process, from raw material treatment to product finishing. The company places a strong emphasis on research and development and has a 4,500 square meter lab – Danieli Research Center – to foster technological advancements and innovation. As one of the top three suppliers of plants and equipment to the metals industry, Danieli Group delivers impactful solutions to its customers.
In addition to its dedication to technological innovation, the Group is also committed to Corporate Social Responsibility, taking part in various initiatives such as talent development programs with schools and universities, sustainable environmental projects, preservation of local landmarks, sponsorships, and donations. These initiatives demonstrate the company’s commitment to making a positive impact not only in the industry, but also in the communities it serves.
